Li Qiang Meets with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of Singapore Lawrence Wong

On May 16, 2023, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met with visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of Singapore Lawrence Wong at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Qiang said that President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong jointly announced the elevation of China-Singapore relations to an all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations in the new era. China is ready to work with Singapore to translate the new characterization of bilateral relations into concrete actions and new fruitful outcomes.

Noting that this year marks the 45th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, Li Qiang said that Singapore has been actively involved in China's reform and opening up, and the interests of the two sides are closely interconnected. China is ready to share with Singapore the opportunities of its development, and welcomes Singapore’s continued deep participation in the process of China’s reform and opening up, to take bilateral cooperation to a new level. Li expressed the hope that the two sides will bring into full play the role of bilateral cooperation mechanisms at the vice-premier level to advance high-quality cooperation in various fields in a coordinated manner, and fully leverage local cooperation mechanisms and platforms to advance the construction of the New Land-Sea Corridor, enhance regional connectivity, and help maintain the stability of the industrial and supply chains. The two side should also give full scope to their respective advantages and strengthen cooperation in such areas as financial services, digital economy, new energy, green urban transition and social governance. Li said both China and Singapore are explorers for modernization. The two countries need to learn from and boost each other for common progress and win-win results in their endeavor to improve the well-being of the people through modernization. China is ready to work with Singapore to explore more measures to facilitate personnel exchanges to promote more frequent mutual visits between the two peoples.

Lawrence Wong said Singapore and China have maintained close cooperation with fruitful outcomes. Singapore is ready to work with China to take the new characterization of bilateral relations as a guide to advance all-round mutually beneficial cooperation to a high standard, and continuously push for new progress in bilateral relations, to make it a good example of state-to-state cooperation.
