Foreign Minister Wang Yi: The Objective Historical Facts Allow No Repudiation
2013-05-29 20:20

Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is in Berlin accompanying Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council in his visit to Germany, answered the questions from the journalists before returning home on the statement by Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga that Japan did not accept the Chinese leader's remarks during the visit to the site of the Potsdam Conference that the territories Japan had seized from China during the World War II must be returned.

Wang Yi expressed that Japan's statements lack common sense and are out of all reason. We urge these people to act honestly and become students again, reread the Potsdam Declaration as well as the Cairo Declaration, and never again saying those words with no sense.

Wang Yi further expressed that Japan accepted the Potsdam Declaration and announced its unconditional surrender in those years. Article 8 of the Potsdam Declaration has made it clear that the terms of the Cairo Declaration shall be implemented. While the main contents of the Cairo Declaration are that all the territories Japan had seized from China should be returned. In the Joint Statement of China and Japan signed by the heads of government of the two countries in 1972 when the diplomatic relationship between China and Japan were normalized, clearly written down in black and white is that "the Japanese side will earnestly implement Article 8 of the Potsdam Declaration". These are objective historical facts that allow no repudiation.
