On August 18, 2026, H.E. Ambassador Xiang Bo met with Dr. Muthanna Al-Tamimi, Iraqi Minister of Water Resources.

Ambassador Xiang noted that China-Iraq relations are developing with good momentum, and that Iraq is an important partner for China in the West Asia and North Africa in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese side expressed its readiness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Iraqi side in the field of water resources, thereby further expanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Al-Tamimi, for his part, affirmed that the Iraqi side attaches great importance to developing relations with China and expressed appreciation for China’s valuable support for Iraq’s reconstruction and economic development. He expressed his hope to draw on China’s innovative technologies and diverse expertise and to enhance cooperation in the exploration, management, and utilization of water resources in Iraq.
