On August 31, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Iraq Xiang Bo met with former Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, leader of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition

Ambassador Xiang spoke highly of Al-Sudani’s contribution to promoting the development of China-Iraq relations during his tenure as Prime Minister, noting that bilateral relations have maintained steady development under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, and that fruitful outcomes have been achieved in China-Iraq cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. China stands ready to further strengthen practical cooperation with Iraq across various fields and advance bilateral relations to new heights.

Al-Sudani said that the Iraqi government attaches great importance to developing relations with China and is actively advancing cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Iraq is willing to promote the all-round development of relations between the two countries.
